It depends on where you plant which grape varieties, how well they feel there and how well a winemaker treats them. With the organic wine Beyra Rui Robredo Madeira Beira Interior, there is no doubt that the grapes of the Iberian grape variety Jaen, the synonym is Mencia, and the grapes of the Pinot Noir vines, a variety that is native to Burgundy, have formed an excellent combination. The winemaker Rui-Roboredo Madeira deserves our recognition.

  • Nose: stimulating, fresh scents of wild berries.
  • Mouth: very accessible and open from the first contact on the tongue and palate, with a lovely, sympathetic fruit and mineral note. Very harmonious with soft, delicate tannins, elegant and long-lasting taste.
  • Recommendation for enjoyment: Try it with Iberian ham, smoked cheese (tofu) or a juicy steak.

The edaphoclimatic characteristics in the highlands of Beira Interior, around Vermiosa, were the inspiration for this pioneering project in the concept of high-altitude wines in Portugal, fresh and elegant, with great personality.

In Beira Interior, the organic wines are influenced by the altitude and the large temperature variations, as well as by soils with high water retention capacity, combining clay soils with slate, granite and granite with quartz. The vineyards are surrounded by the Estrela and Malcata mountain ranges to the south and by Marofa to the east, and are located at an altitude of between 700 and 850 meter.

The vines are not irrigated, the grapes are harvested by hand, the berries are picked from the stems and then macerated in the mash for a few days before the must is separated from the skins and seeds of the berries. The fermentation lasts seven days at a temperature of 22 to 27 degrees C. In this way, the full character of the grape varieties is preserved. This organic wine is aged in stainless steel tanks and not in wooden barrels.

Rui Roboredo Madeira: My passion for wines with fresh and mineral aromas led me to choose granite soils for these grape varieties.
