Mas Blanch i Jové, organic wine from Costers del Segre

The Mas Blanch i Jové winery was only founded in 2006 by the Jové family. Until then, the plots of land either lay fallow or were planted with other crops. Because the phylloxera plague in the 19th century destroyed all the vines and as a result viticulture in the Costers de Segre region came to a complete standstill.

Mas Blanch i Jové was one of the pioneers who dared to grow wine again at the beginning of the 21st century to produce organic wines. Her winery now includes 17 hectares of vineyards, most of which are worked manually.

Not only are the ecological concerns of nature in the vineyards respected, but the reduction of energy consumption for winemaking, storage and administration was also incorporated into the planning and construction of the wine cellar. This was built into the earth with stones taken from the vineyards, covered with earth and stones, so that the temperature inside is mostly constant. The electrical energy that is still required is obtained with 110 solar panels, which is stored in 45 batteries with 2500 Am/h and which covers 99% of the requirement.

Everything is very harmoniously integrated into the landscape, so the wine cellar can only be seen from one side. The wine cellar and the surrounding landscape appear in a warm, ocher light.

But the interior is also architecturally very beautiful. And since the winemaker Sarah Jové is not only interested in art, but also maintains good connections to artists, there are some works by the artists Gregorio Iglesias, Esteve Casanoves and Josep Guinovart, both indoors and outdoors
was not only the initiator for this wine cellar, but also designed it.
