Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes, Domaine de Marcoux, 2012
96 points Wine Spectator 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
The Châteauneuf du Pape Vieilles provides a deep mouthful of juicy, fleshy figs, plum and raspberry fruit, while notes of fruitcake, red licorice and burnt apple wood stand out. Long, dense, balanced and polished on the finish, with fine sparkling acidity and perfectly integrated tannins. A breathtaking wine that presents a combination of depth, breadth and balance. Best drinking time from 2016 to 2035.
Organic wine processing Châteauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes 2012
"The harvest took place in all three parcels by hand. The harvested grapes are transported to the winery in 50 kg containers, where they were separaed from the stems and panicles, lightly squeezed and macerated in the and stored in small stainless steel tanks (the harvest was too small to fill a large cask). The subsequent alcoholic fermentation was carried out without foreign yeast at a controlled temperature and with regular circulation of the mash. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is removed and matured in low, conical wooden barrels for 18 months.
The 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes has around 2,800 bottles to offer. Always a mix of 100% Grenache from three vineyards - Charbonnière, Esquierons and Galimardes. The wine has a perfumed, complex profile of black raspberries and blackberries, spring flowers, licorice and moist herbs. It follows a full-bodied, richly structured wine with layers of sweet fruit, fine tannin and magnificent length. It lacks the sheer depth and richness of the top vintages of 2006, 2007 and 2010, but it should have ten to fifteen years of longevity and a lot of enjoyment."

The grapes for this wine come from three vineyards:
with 2.32 hectares on a plateau whose floor of sand, sandstone and molasse, but is not covered with the typical for Chateauneuf du Pape large stones. According to existing written documents, this vineyard was planted in 1900, the vines are therefore more than one hundred years old.
A plot of 1.13 hectares lies directly behind the old castle. It was partly planted in the years 1900 and 1949.
This parcel on a plateau in the south of the appellation was planted half to 1934 and 1959 with Grenache. Here the soils are very rocky and covered with stones up to the size of a head, which are so typical of the growing area.
