Château Beau Rivage, Bordeaux Supérieur AC, organic wine, red, 2016, from € 18.55

Outstanding features of this Bordeaux Supérieur from the Château Beau Rivage are twice the number of vines in the vineyard as are prescribed for Bordeaux Supérieur wines. Instead of 3,300 vines per hectare, it is here 6,600, at the same time, the harvest is only half as large as allowed. This is a clear indication that Château Beau Rivage places more emphasis on quality than quantity and offers really good wine.

Organic wine - profile

  • Color: deep red with violet reflections
  • Nose: wonderful scents of blackberries, black currants, licorice and vanilla, accompanied by delicate hints of toasted oak
  • Mouth: Complex, well-groomed, sympathetic and supple, this organic wine from the Medoc has an immediate impact. The scents perceived in the smell are also noticeable in the mouth, to which are added nuances of spicy aromas, a pleasant freshness and elegant tannin. An organic Bordeaux in which all components harmonize and offers great enjoyment.

Organic wine - Processing, Château Beau Rivage, Bordeaux Supérieur, AOC, red

Outstanding features are the double number of vines prescribed for Bordeaux Supérieur wines and the low yields of only 25 hl / ha. The 8 hectares of vineyards on former boggy and reclaimed flooring consisting of mud, silt, clay, loose rock (quartz, mica and feldspar) are planted with 6.600 vines/ha with an average age of 38 years (2012). Their yield is limited to 40 hl / hectare. The manual and mechanical grape harvest (depending on the plot) was carried out from October 3 to 17. Before performing the actual fermentation, the grapes are gently crushed and subjected to a cold maceration. Then the 4-week lasting alcoholic fermentation in traditional wood and concrete vats follows. Then the wine is racked in barriques (new 60%) from the family's own production, where the wine undergoes the malolactic fermentation and a 24 months lasting maturation.
