Organic winemaking, Bioweingut Hofer, Gruener Veltliner Landwein

The vineyards of the Bioweingut Hofer are located around the village of Auersberg, about 25 km north of Vienna. Here in the southern Weinviertel, the landscape is slightly hilly and mostly viticulture is practiced here, with organic viticulture becoming more and more popular. The Bioweingut Hofer has applied organic viticulture for many years and has started converting to biodynamic viticulture according to Demeter guidelines since 2019. This is not only about the production of tasty, pure organic wines, but also about protecting the environment. There are numerous nesting boxes for birds in the vineyards, and flowering plants, some of which produce nitrogen, grow between the rows of vines. The work in the vineyards is done jointly by all family members.

The actual winemaking is the responsibility of the winemaker Hermann Hofer, who finds the conditions in a well-equipped cellar to produce good, clean organic wines.

The grape harvest began on September 13th and ended on October 10th, 2019, it was done manually like for all other wines. During this operation, a few good or damaged grapes can be sorted out at the same time. This is the most expensive, but the most reliable method to process only good grapes. The maceration time was only 1 hour and fermentation with the help of organic pure-bred yeast lasted 6 days at a fermentation temperature of 17 ° C. Until it was bottled on September 15, 2020, this white organic wine matured on the yeast in stainless steel tanks.

By the way, here at the Bioweingut Hofer you can also stop for a Heuriger, enjoy last years wines with typical regional dishes and spend pleasant hours.
