Château la Canorgue

Starting in 1970, Jean Pierre and Martine Margan transformed Château La Canorgue into a model organic winery with great idealism and diligence. Unlike many wineries that look like ordinary farmhouses and are called château, La Canorgue truly gives the impression of a château (castle), only a small portion of which is inhabitable.

Nathalie, the daughter of Jean Pierre and Martine Margan, has been managing the winery for several years. We knew her as a 4- or 5-year-old girl in her childhood. Initially, Nathalie had no intention of pursuing organic winemaking. She was interested in journalism and studied it for a while. Ultimately, however, she decided to follow in her parents' footsteps and take responsibility for managing this stunningly beautiful organic winery.

Success did not take long to come; in 1978, Château La Canorgue was named Winery of the Year by the Gault-Millau wine and gastronomy guide thanks to its exceptional organic wines. Since then, the winery has won countless awards and medals at competitions in Paris, Mâcon and Avignon, as well as top ratings from the wine press. These include the Coup de Coeur from the Hachette Guide and numerous other accolades from journals such as Revue des Vins de France, Dussert-Gerber, Gilbert & Gaillard, Terres de Vins and Elles. These awards confirm the consistently high quality of Château La Canorgue's organic wines.

Spread over many small plots that blend harmoniously into the stunningly beautiful landscape of the Luberon, the 40 hectares of vineyards are home to the grape varieties Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Clairette, Roussanne, Marsanne, Bourboulenc, Vermentino and Viognier.

The film A Good Year, starring Russell Crowe and based on the novel by Peter Mayle, was shot at Château La Canorgue. Directed by Ridley Scott, the film further boosted the popularity and demand for the estate's organic wines. The red organic wine 'Coin Perdu', which was served in one scene of the film, has become a flagship product and is now almost impossible to find, partly because the yield from the old vines is getting smaller and smaller.
