Cantina Loda, organic winery at the southern end of Lake Garda in the Lombardy region

It was in the early 1950s that Alfonso Loda and Betilla, a young woman of Venetian origin, met and fell in love in Pozzolengo, a small village south of Lake Garda. From this romance grew a marriage and a joint venture. The existing farm of the Loda family in the province of Brescia becomes a winery and a tourist company, benefiting from the proximity of Lake Garda.

Until then, agricultural activity was the only and most important source of income. Livestock was mainly raised and so many vines were planted on the outskirts that enough wine could be produced from them to cover their own annual needs.

After Alfonso and Bertilla had handed over the property to their three children Marina, Umberto and Egidio, they recognized the increasing tourism in the region and founded an agri-tourism business, renting rooms and apartments to tourists, who also had catering there. Marina is mainly responsible for this area.

At the same time, the two brothers decided to boost wine production, plant new vines and since then have dedicated themselves fully to viticulture. Soon after, they decided to convert their vineyards to organic farming and produce certified organic wines. This step can only succeed if there is motivation and conviction to respect the nature and health of wine drinkers.

After a three-year conversion phase, the first certified organic wine was bottled in 2016.
