Oeko-Weingut Zang, "Orts-Wein", Pinot Noir, Old World, Franconia QbA, organic wine, red, 2012

Rainer Zang, the winemaker, tries to interpret his local wines as clear anar ad transparent representatives of grape varieties without much chichi. He focuses on the mineral origins of the vineyards around the wine-growing towns of Sommerach and Nordheim. The existing shell limestone soil from the Main loop runs through the wines like a cool stream bed. Like the Oeko-Weingut Zang Orts-Wein Pinot Noir, Old World, they are all consistent representatives of its organic philosophy and style: close to nature, unvarnished, honest and dry.

Organic wine profile

  • Color: A delicate cherry red glows from the glass.
  • Nose: The scent is initially menthol-cool with an ethereal feel of eucalyptus and licorice. Then the finely ripened fruit gradually emerges with sour cherries and dried fruits. All of this is supported by clearly green, vegetal-tart undertones that bring to mind forest floors, spices and herbs such as cloves, allspice and sage. Everything remains very transparent and rather quiet.
  • Mouth: In the mouth, the initially rustic tannins are reminiscent of a French Village Pinot, but it cannot hide its Franconian origins and the chalky grip of the shell limestone soil paired with the fine roasted aroma of the wooden barrel lingers on the palate. With a little air, the tannins become significantly softer. A dense red fruity spiciness also opens up on the tongue, which is retained for a long time in the earthy, ethereal finish, carried by the mature tannins.
The floating elegance of Pinot Noir: mercilessly good at this ripeness! 2024
  • Drinking recommendation : Serve at 14- 16°C.
