A Château Cafol, Château is usually called a winery in Bordeaux, i.e. a building, but you will not find it in Saint Magne de Castillon. Here it is possible to call a specific vineyard a château. There can be various reasons for this.
At Château Saint Brice, the main business so to speak, the 34 hectares of vineyards are still conventionally cultivated and marketed under the name Château Saint Brice.
The owners of Château Saint Brice wanted to clearly distinguish the organically produced wines from the 10-hectare Cafol vineyard from the conventionally produced wines. Hence the name Château Cafol.
This vineyard is planted with the Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties traditionally grown in the Libournais region, which are more than 30 years old (2024) and are therefore at their best (productive and qualitative). They thrive on loamy, calcareous subsoil covered with gravel.
The grapes are harvested by machine and traditionally fermented in the mash and matured in barriques for 12 months.
