Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, they say. I would like to suggest that a winemaker can find a flat, easy-to-manage vineyard area with good soil, while a tourist would find it boring.
Apart from the river valleys of the Duero and its tributaries, which are very scenic, the entire wine-growing region of Rueda is at an altitude of 600 to 800 m above 0. Emilio Pita, the winemaker of the Dominio de Verderubi, took the opportunity to acquire a large, coherent, agriculturally unused area in which he could practice organic viticulture undisturbed by neighbors. Here the soils are light, sandy, stony and not very fertile, rich in minerals and permeable to water. The continental climate in Rueda with hot summers, cold winters and clear temperature differences between day and night is ideal for producing fresh, fruity and aromatic organic wines.
