The Denominacion Vinos de Madrid was only founded in 1990. It covers approximately 8,900 hectares of vineyards in the DO region (designation of origin) with the sub-areas of Arganda, Navalcarnero, San Martín de Valdeiglesias and El Molar. 2019
The prevailing climate is continental with high temperatures in summer and very cold temperatures in winter, which is also due to the altitude of up to 1,000 m above sea level. Rainfall is usually very low, which is why irrigation of the vines can also be authorized in an emergency.

Crianza red: at least 2 years, of which at least 6 months in barrique (all wines)
Crianza white/rosado: at least. 24 months, of which at least 6 months in oak.
Reserva red: at least 3 years, including at least 1 year in oak.
Gran Reserva Blanco/Rosado: standard aging.
Gran Reserva red: minimum 24 months in oak and 36 months in bottle.
Minimum/maximum planting density: 900/4,000 vines per hectare.
