Château La Bedouce is a former 18th-century monastery that hosted pilgrims on the Way of St. James from Compostela. Alain Favretto's grandparents bought the property in the 1930s and in 1982 Alain Favretto harvested his first grapes.
Supported by his two daughters, he continues this family legacy with the same passion as ever. His great pride is the organic farming certificate he received in 2010. Always working carefully, he cultivates this magnificent vineyard with great respect for the environment and in accordance with the strict rules of organic farming.
The Château la Bedouce has 40 hectares of vineyards planted with the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties and are now (2024) around 30 years old. This is a good age because from now on the quality of the grapes is better than in younger years.
Château la Bedouce is located on the left bank, viewed from the south, opposite Castillon-la-Bataille, on one of the best soils in the Entre-deux-Mers region.
Since 2010, the vineyards have been cultivated strictly according to the rules of organic viticulture. This also includes so-called green manure, in which legumes are sown between the rows of vines, the roots of which produce nitrogen, which gradually serves as fertilizer for the vines. These plants are later incorporated into the soil, where it turns into humus.
Winemaking (vinification) follows the typical Bordeaux practice with a relatively long maceration and fermentation at controlled temperature. Aging of the organic wine for 18 to 24 months in large wooden and concrete tanks is mandatory. They need a few years until they reach optimal drinking maturity.
